Individual counseling (sometimes called psychotherapy or talk therapy, ) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with me in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. Counseling allows individuals to explore their feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.
Many of my individual clients are seeking help for personal growth and many wanting to break away from dysfunctional family of origin patterns.
A lot of my work with individuals lately has been individuals overwhelmed living within “two worlds” because their parents are immigrants with traditions that are difficult to balance for the young adult that is more acculturated to life in the United States. My job as a therapist is to put myself in my clients place and its so important that I be educated and aware of the diversity in our community, their values, beliefs, traditions and work with my client from their lens.
